The traditional Boxing Day derbies produced some cracking festive fare with there being good wins for St Dogmaels, Aberaeron, Maesglas, Crannog and Llandysul.
On the School Field the Saints just had the edge on Cardigan who contributed well to an entertaining game. The visitors gained an early fifth minute lead through Peter Edwards, only for the unfortunate Lee Durham to put through his own goal on fifteen minutes to give the home side their equaliser.
Chances were then had at both ends before Lee Burrows from a good move gave St Dogmaels a crucial lead just before half time. Not to be outdone the visitors fought back gamely after the turnaround and fully deserved their second when Ben Davies rifled home a free kick from just outside the penalty area.
After a Johnny James penalty had been well saved by Steve Smith it seemed that the game would end in a draw but with time fast running out an accurate cross from Dafydd George fell to Aled Rees who was able to fire home from close range to give the homesters the points.
Aberaeron pulled off the shock result of the day with a well deserved away win at New Quay. The home side started the strongest and took a deserved lead when leading scorer Chris Atkinson slotted home past keeper Barry Edwards.
The game's turning point came some three minutes from the interval when from a penalty Steffan Gruffudd netted the visitor's equaliser. This spurred them to dominate the second period and they clinched the points through a Stuart Smith header and two goals from substitute Ellis Daniels.
Maesglas had a comfortable win over Aberporth with goals from Anthony James who scored twice, Huw Meredith, Dai Cole and Phil Furney.
Crannog put six past Dewi Stars. Jordan Jones led the way with a hat-trick and there was a goal each for Chris Welch, Mike Young and Bobby Vaughan Jones.
In an exciting tussle Llandysul pulled off a valuable win against Ffostrasol. Simon Davies proved to be their hero with four well taken individual goals. Iwan Williams added their fifth.
The day's other game between Llanybydder and Lampeter finished all-square. In what was very much a tale of two halves Lampeter dominated the opening period and ran up a two goal lead through Osian Williams and Mark Wilkins.
After the turnaround it proved to be a different story. Louis Evans pulled the home side back into the game and after a couple of good chances had been missed Stuart Lovell netted the equaliser for a deserved share of the spoils. |
